You want me to answer you seriously?
I would have released it earlier in the summer cycle.
First, the three "big" movies of the summer were supposed to be dinos, supes, and f4. All of them are in July. Get ahead of that shit and try to maximize your stay on the up charge screens.
Second. We know from the films trends it performed better with kids(boys) and families. This is just reality, it's not an insult. Monetarily, this has been reflected in week day box office returns, which have been unusually high for a super hero film. Accepting this, I would copy the strategy Disney has used to successfully leg out movies. Maximize the time kids are out of school to see the film. An example of Disney doing this this summer is lilo and stitch which hit a billion in mid July after it released in May. If stitch had released in July would have had to deal with the school starting dates limiting how often kids could be taken to the theater, and as an affect it probably wouldn't have been able to cross that billion threshold like it did.
Do I think superman could have legged out over a billion like stitch if it had done this? No, absolutely not. Do I think it would have given it more money? I absolutely do. Slow and steady wins the race. Instead Superman is flying into a wall when its best audience starts returning to school.
