NTA but we talked about this a while back and I proposed a question: what if Valentino wanted to be redeemed? Most of the audience this show cultivates would say "fuck no." Because Valentino is clearly a sex trafficker who enslaves his victims with drugs to keep them dependent on him. How horrifying...
Angel is a murderer. Technically a serial killer. Shitty lore says that Angel was a gangster in life and then in Hell he continues that trend. The only reason his victims come back is because he doesn't have the means to kill them permanently, not that he would care either way. I would say his characterization is too over the to be taken seriously except there is a real world example of a psycho who kills indiscriminately: Darrell Brooks. And everyone cheered as he was dragged away to prison. No one cared about his sad backstory. The only reason Angel gets clemency is because we know him on a personal level. So when we see Valentino remind him that he's a slave, we empathize with how Angel feels. But why is Angel anymore special than any other demon of Hell? Why is Valentino? Alastor has slaves too, 2 of which we know.
If the premise of the show is that any demon, no matter how bad, can be redeemed then surely Valentino is just as welcome in the Hazbin Hotel as anyone else. Right? And if there are some demons that are just unforgivable, where is that line drawn? I'm not saying that the problem is the characters. I'm saying I don't think Viv cares about that kind of interrogation of good and evil. And that the show uses Christian mythos as an aesthetic rather than a desire to engage with it.
