The spinoffs are still mostly fine. The main games are and have been terrible since X/Y in 2013, coinciding exactly with the jump to 3D. The low quality can be mostly explained by Game Freak pouring their hearts and souls into making B/W/B2/W2 and then putting next to no effort into X/Y and having X/Y sell MORE. They then proceeded to reuse the same models from X/Y for the next decade and make the games even easier (to the point of parody). Now all the games are for is petting your Pokemon and competitive battling. Those are all Game Freak cares about because that's all the "fans" care about anymore.
