>Usually there's just... nothing - jank design, shoddy gameplay, mediocre music, boring aesthetics.
Unironically, just described most games made by a lone autist coder.
>Solasta
We're so deep in slopenomics with the game industry. When NWN came out it there was a lot of room for artist freedom and the bar was way lower, but now everything is heavily standardized. The artists and musicians trying to get jobs in the industry effectively min/max towards being world class at being generic because that is the most likely way to get a job. Voice actors are in unions that made it so even fucking Ubisoft can't get decent voice actors reliably.
>the whole game is in fact designed around that, so most people see no need to create custom campaigns.
This is kind of interesting. I did see a lot of games with mod support that goes completely ignored, because the game is basically viewed as disposable slop. It seems today its either megahits like BG3 that get mods or its sandbox indie games that also ended up being a hit.
