For some reason it seems like peoples brain completely shuts off when it comes to software so here is an example that should make it more easy

This is exactly what is going on you bought a product and the company you bought it from vandalizes it so you buy the new one.

This idea that they just can't do it is false and retarded. There are tons of older games before this practice became common that allow you to host multiplayer servers, Community efforts have resulted in custom built servers etc but it requires information and willingness from the developer to make this possible in the future. Currently devs are doing everything in their power to create as many hurdles.
Seperately there is the whole piracy coping from companies that abuse their copyright to ensure the work isn't distributed so you once again have to buy the new version.
