yes, for a few reasons.
1: as i noted earlier, the actions of the mob went entirely against Christian teachings, most specifically Romans 13, which said everyone is to be subject to the governing authorities, which in this case was oretes, hypathia's boss.
stripping her naked and killing her with shards of pottery runs counter to Christian motives, therefore it's more likely it was a political thing.
2: the "conflict theory" you're alluding to has been utterly debunked by secular (even atheist) historians of science, see pic related.
