The problem, I think, is that the concept they're allegedly going for and what the brand does in practice are at odds with one another. They're supposed to be like the ultimate sports watch designed for crazy shock resistance and durability and all that, going to crazy engineering lengths to achieve that. And normally that would be fine, even at the ridiculous price point they operate at there are diminishing returns on making something the best of the best of the best so to a degree you can understand them being expensive to pull that off. covered in diamonds or with crazy gaudyaesthetics that are obviously just for ridiculous spectacle. They don't like it for the same reason people didn't like the 2 tone explorer. A precious metal field watch is just goofy.
