no cars: dusk on a weekend is good, even better is very early morning sunday.

very important: a route, or circuit, i know like the back of my hand.
this is where you can open up and hit the limit.
even with all these variables you still get mishaps. shit on the road that wasn't there before, cyclists around a bend, gravel from recent construction work, or last but not least your own mis-judgement - too fast into a corner, brake too late, or even mechanical fault (false neutral when engine breaking). tyres can slip even in the best of conditions.
