weeell akkshually... it's not just because they thought Tokusatsu with biblically accurate angels as kaijus was a cool idea. anno clearly has this catcher in the rye mentality, that he demonstrates in several different works, touching on several different socio-psychological issues. In NGE he basically has this message for the depressive soon-to-bee-hikikomori youth that "it's not all that bad". and Evangelium mean "good will message". Pretentious as fuck thinking you can write and deliver a gospel (especially considering nge created more otakus than it prevented), but he is not a christian so it's all fluff to him.
anyway yeah, apart from that, nge has zero judeo-christian messeging in it.
