Besides the ship wars and fujo anger, this kind of story is not something large amounts of the audience appreciates. They don't want distance romance and belief to be the main message, they want the romance to be directly and consistently addressed throughout the manga with lots of pandering. It doesn't matter if distant romance and faith is a standard for many of these stories.
