On one hand, while the season doesn't really put Uta and Purirun's friendship at the forefront for most of the episodes before 17, there's still a lot of small moments that piled up between the two of them to the point where Purirun willing to give up anything for Uta's sake and Uta being depressed that her memories went away were perfectly believable. It certainly shocked me that Uta and Purirun's feelings for each other were that heavy, but I felt like that was because that was just me underestimating the characters of Uta and Purirun rather than a failure on the show's part.

While the Uta/Purirun part of the arc is over (and I also agree the resolution to part of this arc was rushed this episode though it doesn't really impact my impression of the arc as a whole), Meroron still has to be dealt with one way or the other so the team can fully form. That's when I would say this arc is genuinely over. Maybe they'll reveal Meroron's secret before she willingly joins the team or maybe she'll save it for later; that's one plot element I'm unsure if they'll reveal soon or not.
