I don’t know that Inejirō Asanuma was ever actually a communist. He was a Japanese fascist in WW2 and then after the war he was a socialist and wanted to align Japan with the PRC instead of the US. I think more than anything his overriding belief was East Asian racial unity against the white Western world.
