Arthas and Grom are the grounded mundane characters that the story is about, who Arthas killed yesterday and why and how it ties into what happens next is directly relevant to the story and is understandable to both the main cast of the characters and the players who are ordinary humans
On the other hand what Illidan did 10k years ago and why and what kind of place was the world then with what kind of morals and what was the context behind his actions is NOT relevant to the story nor understandable or relatable to the cast or the human players, same goes for whatever turned Ner'zhul from pic related into an armor encased in ice
To go back to the LOTR comparison, it's like what Melkor and Sauron were doing while Eru was singing the world into existence is irrelevant and not explained in depth and when it is it sounds like incoherent mythical ramblings not relatable to everyday life because it's not important and trying to explain it fully would rob the era of its mystique
