My position from the start is that human beings evolved higher and higher cognition levels which is a double-edged sword because it allowed for total domination of our environments on one hand but on the other hand it gave us a deep awareness of our mortality.
While our cognition is used to make us dominate, it also needs to be used to make us cope. That is why we needed to invent religions and rituals and all sorts of beliefs so we wouldn't go crazy.
