I bought a 2 br town house in Kure Hiroshima for under $30K USD that's relatively new (2014).

Kure is a dying industry shipyard town however I am actually making a bet it will rebound in a few years if the JSDF makes their HQ here.
It's quiet and I like that and the neighbors seem to be happy a tradie gajin moved in that can help fix shit. My main job is with the government.
