Louisiana has too many small schools. ULM is thirty minutes from La Tech, which itself is four miles away from Grambling State. None of them are near anything of consequence. ULM has less than 8k undergrads. Grambling has about 5k, and Tech about 10k. I understand the political and historical reasons for having three schools in the same area but none of them are really doing well.
Because of the race issue, no one is going to want to touch Grambling but ULM really shouldn't exist. Long ago when it was a junior college and Tech was a mechanical school, them being different entities made sense. Now they're both comprehensive universities. Move ULM's academic programs to Tech. These aren't destination schools, they places students go because they couldn't go anywhere better. Anyone going to ULM could as easily go to Tech.
