You carefully walk backwards, the skeleton stumbling in your direction chasing you slowly until you're in the passageway again.
"So is that spell coming or what?" Bell Ringer grumbles.
"A-almost got it!" The green unicorn turns the pages of her tome in a panic. "Let's see, zombie… ghoul… mummy… ghost…uh…"
"Come on! We don’t have all day!" The pegasus barks.

But just as she turns her eyes away, the skeleton suddenly lunges at her.
"Watch out!" You shout, but too late. The undead grabs Bell Ringer and sinks its sharp teeth into her side.
"Arg! Curses!" Bell Ringer hisses. The mare thrashes about and can fortunately buck away the undead. Then, with a mighty swing of her pickaxe, she hits its skull which is broken to pieces by the blow, and soon the rest of the bones crumble to the ground, inanimate.
Bell Ringer seems mostly okay, but there's blood dripping from her wound.

"Gee, thanks for the help!" Bell Ringer gives you and Brass Compass a mean frown. "Really good spell you used here you freaking useless nerds!"
"I'm so sorry!" Brass Compass bows in shame. "But please. We should get you outside and heal that wound."
"Leaving right in front of a chest? Fat chance!" Bell Ringer retorts. "If you really wanna help, let's get this over with quickly."

There doesn't seem to be another danger and the skeleton stays down. Nothing prevents you from approaching the chest. As it not locked, Bell Ringer readily opens the stone box, revealing a small statuette in a small pile of precious-looking gemstones.
"Ah! There we go!" Bell Ringer purrs. "Looks like today isn't gonna be a complete waste after all."
"Wait!" Brass Compass interjects. "I recognize this statuette. It's a depiction of the wolf spirit one of the ancient animist tribes of the plains worshipped. This chest is an altar to that spirit I think, and I detect there's still some magic attached to it. If we take the offerings, the spirit might get angry at us."
"Aw, come on! You gotta be kidding me!" The pegasus mare protests, but the prospect of getting cursed keeps her from trying to seize the valuables.

"If you dispelled the magic of the altar, would it be safe to take the gems?" You ask Brass Compass.
"Well…" The mare sounds uncomfortable, probably still shaken by her mistake of earlier. "Probably, but I… I'm not sure I could pull it off. I'd rather write a letter to the Seekers so they send an expert to take care of this. This altar doesn't pose any threat if we leave it as it is."

>A: This room has been explored. Call it a day and collect your reward for the quest.

>B: Encourage Brass Compass to do her best and try to dispel the magic of the altar. No pressure. She's got time now.

>C: Screw curses. Smash the statuette on the ground so Bell Ringer can at least get a bit of compensation for her trouble.
