Look at how when the neo humans were fighting the giants the buildings were smiling while the neo humans were expressionless and seemed to act too synchronized. It was also said that the neo humans control the humans or something.

I think the reason they weren't afraid of death is because the people there are human drones controlled by the neo humans, who control and possess masses of enhanced humans as puppets while they are actually the buildings. This would also explain why they didn't fear the parasite.
