since 1886 only 15 teams have achieved > 0.700 wining percentage (and only three of them since 1954). short answer is it's just really hard to do, and much more so now w. free agency and collective bargaining. this season has also seen some cold streaks by some of the early front runners, leaving only one currently left w. W-L% > 0.600 (and they even just got swept by the mariners kek).
