lets make a small list of what we've got in 3.0:
-WS4, BS4 (intead of 5),
Contemptor got +1A (4) and Leviathan has one less A (4),
Leviathan lost HoW but now has an option for a phosphex discharger (great at killing 1w marines + Panic(3)).
Both got smokescreen (a 5+ shrouded reaction).
They now share the same FoC role with two other shooty dreads that are better at shooting (and more expensive).
So far out of all conteptors weapons i can see two roles:
1. Blasting Marines on the objective 30' away (from FotL) with Plasma+Cbeamer and Havoc launcher with Stun.
2. Shooting at Marines on the objective with Combi Flamers (Panic), Combi Grav (Pinning), and a Havoc Launcher (Stun) from close range—probably the most annoying for your opponent if statuses will be applied. Flamer has an 8' range, so maybe getting a Dreadnought Drop Pod to deny tacticals some remote objective might be a thing. You are getting five melee attacks with two Gravis Power fists.
3. Killing vehicles with A2 D2 twin lascannon in 48' and a Gravis melta, which has a relatively rare D4 in 24'. So if Melta and 1 out of 2 lascannon shots hit, it's -6 HP. In melta range (8) on the move, it can potentially pop up LR with one shot (5+).
Leviathans ehh..the only new thing they got is a limited (3) phosphex discharger with AP3 5+ breaching blast with panic (3), which is…a great weapon. All his (anti 3+/2+) weapons are close ranged, but with his meltalance gun and fist, he can potentially blast 4 models with D3 melta (apothecaries won't help), which potentially can bring some of his points back? With Kharybdis he can come out of reserves on turn 1, then fly to some expensive unit, kill it, and then on turn 3 he can get into Kharybdis again and be moved to some other point on the battlefield for the last 4th turn. I mean, that way he can maybe find himself two big targets to kill, but with Areal reserves, he may not return to the battlefield at all.
