The problem isn't writing him as a resistance fighter, the problem is sticking him in some kind of militia.
Putting Sonic in the situation of some kind of organised war effort - ignoring the innate ridiculousness of the concept - doesn't even fit him as a character as Sonic would just do things his own way as and when needed.

Sonic would NOT attend organisational meetings.
