They fucking suck
1. Get a honing steel instead, they do the exact same thing those are purported to do except they actually work and don't ruin the life of your knives
2. Store your knives properly, e.g. don't throw them into a drawer like a retard. Get a knife rack or storage block, otherwise the edges will dull or chip from clashing with all the other shit in the drawer.
3. When you're done using your knife, don't throw them in the sink or they'll dull/chip just like if they were put in a drawer. You should hand wash them as well, technically there are some knives that can be put in some dishwashers but the risks of corrosion, warping, and dulling/chipping aren't worth it.
I'd also second what >>21405274 said - he obviously doesn't give a shit or has no idea how to take care of a knife, so if he doesn't care then just take any high quality knives he has as an early inheritance and don't worry about it.
