When I got laid off I had about 50k in savings because I'm a boring bitch who reads and fucks his wife in farmers fields at night for recreation. (I dont share). The wife earns a decent wage as an office manager so she kept us afloat but the savings would have stretched if we cut back to the bone. The apprenticeship wages are straight garbage but if you have savings to cushion the blow you can make it. Pulling overtime worked too but you can only bank as many hours as your boss is good for.

General is better. Emergency callouts at night is where I make the big bucks. I just show up with battery floodlights and get treated like a hero if I can fix the problem which is 9/10. I've had stupid kids and women call me at 3am because they blew the breakers and didn't know how to reset them. 300 bucks for turning up and flipping a switch? Yes please. I only go easy on old women who are clearly broke, you can usually tell if the house is shitty. The rest pay the call out, plus time and materials. If it's actually a hard job that's 150-200 dollars an hour. If you call an electrician on saturday morning at 3am you're asking to get ass blasted, and I'm one of their fairer priced guys.

I wouldn't know, never had a degree. I just got certified through the state via an apprenticeship. I was a NEET from 18-24. Had a girlfriend, but I was flat broke living with my parents. I only got a job because she wouldn't quit complaining that I was a bum. Ironically she left me because I was working too much. Women are insane.
