So yeah... that's the reason why it's called the dark age of technology.
1) There is very little known about that era.
2) It led to horrible Age of Strife so people saw that we had been foolish to trust the machines so thoroughly, so it was "a dark time" and
3) Afterwards the distrust against anything even remotely related to AI has been so severe that they literally made a religion about it, and it permiates practically all human cultures. It was "a dark time" becase the AI was seen as EVIL.

Even nowdays when wh40k citizens talk about AI they don't mean "artificial intelligence". They mean "abominable intelligence".
If you even study how such systems work... It's not just a CRIME, it's religious HERESY. Like if you are trying to replicalte Alexa/cortana -style personal assistant bot, and people find out about it... they will kick down your door, shoot you, shoot your family, shoot your dog, burn down your house, burn down the neighbours house and shoot their family (and their dog) just on an off chance that they might have picked up some heretical thoughts from you.

That's how much they hate AI.
