Romans were convinced of the authenticity of Christianity through a lot of rigorous debate and discourse actually; Neo-Platonism is really interesting because it essentially introduces the concept of a trinity to Platonism around the same time that Christianity is starting to become really popular in philosophy schools around the 3rd century and began to push Platonism to the way side, they were actively developing coping mechanisms based around Christian metaphysics because they couldn’t find a way to dismantle them from traditional views (ie resolving the one and the many problem which is what defeated old Platonism in the first centuries AD)
