There is something interesting about 12 and 13 and it's that they obviously tried to get rid of the intense romance FF games are popular for because they probably tried to look for the asexual audience. It's why Ashe x Vaan only exists in promos now, no triangle romance with Vaan, Penelo and Ashe (hell Vaan x Penelo is just bland), and 13 has the main character being single while her sister takes the tall Aryan Chad (to be fair if ff6 were remade these days people would see Terra is just looking while Celes and Locke kiss)
Versus XIII seemed to bring back romance kino but Stella got replaced by a worse version and 15 had too many cuts.
FF16 while shit at least it still tried to have romance so my guess is 17 will have romance too
