If you're just starting the abyss, try something simple like this Punisher for tranquil electricals. An absolute new character can fly it and it only costs about 4-5m ISK. Keep Imperial Navy Multifrequency S in your cargo as well in case you run into the Skybreaker so you can actually kill it.
Some people recommend going straight to a Retribution afterwards since they're pretty great solo until T2 and a Retribution gang handles T4+, but I'd say you should ditch frigates and go to a cruiser setup unless you know people. Cruisers are what you need to solo effectively otherwise you'll cap out at T2 abyss and run them slowly. I'd say get a drone boat like the Arbitrator or Vexor since drones work really well in the abyss at level skill/cost levels and leads into the Gila or Ishtar, but going to a Maller/Navy Omen then to Phantasm works well up to T4 and maybe T5 if you like lasers, or a Caracal to Muninn/Sacrilege if you like missiles.
Personally, I do T5/T6 abyss in a Gila because it's meta and it's the easiest way to print money, but I do occasionally fly a Phantasm or Sacrilege because I like the ships. Vagabond/Cynabal can work but are both really fragile and cap out on like T4. Deimos/Vigilant with blasters are wholly useless due to a lack of range, you waste too much time getting up to targets to kill them.

Speedrunning T1 Exotics is ok but caps out too low. Even if you get a 5 minute clear time, that's only like about 60m ISK/hr, which isn't terrible for a new player but the chance they're not going to lose their ship and be in the hole 100m ISK is pretty low. Retribution is a better choice because it's more economical.
I'd just say go with a dual rep, dual battery, rapid light Arbitrator and do T2s instead, then you're getting practice with a ship that can progress to T3s and flies the same as a higher tier ship. It's only about 30m ISK for the fitting and another 10m for the Navy Infiltrators.
