Something I think is important for 40k fanfiction is that you shouldn't write from the perspective of named character. I think a lot of good 40k fluff comes from the impersonal perspective taken when talking about battles and wars.

They focus on inidivduals when they are the first to meet a new enemy or get preyed upon by a threat to the colony. You know what I mean?
