Codexes no longer have army rules in them and all are filled cover to cover with fluff about a faction with rules loved online and a free code in the book to unlock access to the app. Buying the core rules and any one codex gives you access to all the rules for all factions. Every codex contains a collection of newly written short stories taking place over an in-universe campaign with the faction fighting over a protracted conflict and a final conclusion to that story. Every codex lists five or six ongoing war efforts the faction is involved in throughout the galaxy against different fractions and two or three deeper mysteries of the faction that no one yet knows the answers to. The crusade rules include unique data sheets for use in crusade only.

Daemon worlds have a "heart of darkness" that if destroyed at their core after fighting through a reality bending labyrinth. At their destruction the daemon world's unreality begins to stabilize back into a more realistic form as warp aspects flee from the planet.

This is to give an ember of hope to Imperium Fans and give their space marines something to do.

The warped time in the Nihilus has resulted in interstellar nations forming up that while resisting chaos and xenos are also resisting the Imperium. Basically a load of Auretian Technocracies everywhere.

There are Primaris Space Marines captured alive, had their limbs removed, their resistance to chaos and chaos mutation exploited and being used as "gene-seed generators" for chaos space marines along with living organisms that generate human brains filled with 10k+ years of combat experience for flash indoctrination to make new space marines quickly have Horus Heresy veteran years experience.
In response to this The Imperium is right now just having a never ending founding of space marine chapters.

Moirae Schismatics are still out there in the galaxy.
A new Martian civil war due to believing that Cawl is a heretek through committing innovation.

Emperor Worshipping but anti-Terra cults are forming around the Imperium of Man that venerates the Emperor but denounces the government of Terra, believing that it is now despotically ruled by incompetent thugs that use Big Emperor's corpse as a hostage to hold authority over Terra+the Imperium.

CSM and Dark Mechanicus are researching and reverse engineering Votann tech. Already Votann holds have fallen to Iron Autists as mentioned in I think the 9th edition CSM codex or was it 10th?

Everyone but the Imperium, oddly enough.

Fabius bile attachment lets me use rhinos somewhat effectively with +2" movement on chosen led by a Master of Possession.

Deploy with the vehicle against the deployment line except when I disembark the Chosen+Leader squad they get 3" before they get to move 9"+D6 advancement(1CP lets them charge afterwards).

I feel like chaos gets enough dakka on their rhino to feel good to take one since its 8 bolter shots and a havoc launcher inside 12" at the cost of 5 marines, but tougher than 5 marines.

See any downsides to this? I feel like its a choice pick unit for the detachment aside from always going Possessed and Warp Talons.

When I lived in the big city I played like twice a week because I lived next to one of the best stores in the region. Made a bunch of friends and my roomate played.

I moved about 4 years ago and haven't played a single time since.

From my game the termi squad led by the termi captain had trouble killing with their power fists and relic blades.
They shoot with storm bolters so they have tremendous amount of shooting, but its kinda shit. The heavy flamer did ok, especially on overwatch.
I guess I should've DS the squand and have them hold objectives, but I got baited by the termi captain's ability to reroll charge, thinking they would be good in melee.
Combi weapons doing the same thing is also a problem, I find them very very weak this edition.

Space Marine Terminators are kept intentionally shit because GW wants the 'special boi' terminator squads like DWK or Deathshroud to be better than vanilla but not overwhelmingly gamewarping
As a result, the 'generalist' armies in CSM and SM get absolute dogshit for terminators.
One squad of Terminators punching into a Marine squad kills 5.5 MEQ unless they start popping Oath
Againt vehicles, they'll deal a whopping 4 damage to a tank or 4-6 with chainfists.

Meanwhile normal Termies are W3 which means all of the crazy damage 3 stuff in the game eats them alive

Thanks, they still got a long way to go as I'm painting a squad of 10 metamorphs + iconward. But I'm done with the boring stuff that is basecoating. My only gripe is having used a spray can in less than ideal weather conditions which gave a rather gritty surface to work with and it kinda shows.

That's perfectly fine. Monochrome mandrakes look good still and you can always contrast the flames and get good results. Slightly higher effort would be painting the skin skirts with a quick wych flesh and sloppy flesh shade and dry brushing the hair white. And of course Metallica on the weapons. Highlight and shades are completely unnecessary. Only details you lose are the skin runes, the eyes, and the few that have mouths.

For a example Farsight enclaves are pretty popular for the Tau, not as much as Phil Kelly wants but have a few dedicated fans. No one is writing fics about Farsight expanding the Enclave beyond the 6 worlds he owns despite it being easy to do.

Something I think is important for 40k fanfiction is that you shouldn't write from the perspective of named character. I think a lot of good 40k fluff comes from the impersonal perspective taken when talking about battles and wars.
For the first story don't write from Jamos view, since the story isn't long enough for us to care about his thoughts or reactions to events. Instead just say Dnyiantos Fell to Black Legion deserts. The loyalist Coal Hearts chapter space marines fought desperate last stand aganist Cacophony of Steel, who took the battle station to build more chaos war fleets for their new master Vashtorr.
40k is about factions over centuries and millennium not individuals. Think of it like an insect documentry, the main focus on the life cycle of any colonies not the thoughts and actions of individual ants. They focus on inidivduals when they are the first to meet a new enemy or get preyed upon by a threat to the colony. You know what I mean?

Hecatons deploying out of the land forts its just so awesome. Rerolling charges lets them get in really reliably too. And then the steeljack detachment looks decent as well. I think a lot of people are too used to the old GW where things would be abandoned at the drop of a hat. They've been showing since at least the Sisters refresh imo that they're ready and willing to update and support every army now, and for the most part have kept their commitment to that. For armies getting an update now it's more a matter of when and not if anymore.

I don't feel the criticism that the tau "became bad" is valid, they were always sneaky dickheads with dubious motives. It just so happens they are slowly becoming worst over time to adapt to being rational in a irrational galaxy. You can't do one sided parasitic diplomacy of making them economically and culturally reliant on you over 2 decades when the other side calls you a heretic and wants to burn you at the stake
I feel a good example of this is the heavily shat on stormsurge design. The stormsurge is overly packy, too many useless guns and missiles launchers, does the job a hammerhead already would and so on. But it's the exact type of thing the imperium comes up with, eccentric over the top weapons that aren't that grounded or effective but with the tau's grounded sci fi and range warfare ideals plastered on it. It's even known stormsurge pilots are treated with scourn for not piloting a real suit I fucking love it love it love it

No, in fact the codex seems to incentivize this heavily. The entire idea is to blitzkrieg the objectives and then out trade and grind it out defensively. You get reroll charges before 7YP, thats a genuinely extremely powerful rule. And steeljacks have a solid melee profile with their S10 power fists.

Combine this with the fact that Votann have awesome infiltrate and scouting options as well. Votann jail is about to be extremely powerful, and I think its quite fluffy as well.

I don't know what will be better because I'm not a pro player or even a votann player or anything. I think stuff like Thunderkyn and warriors and stuff can also work. I just like Steeljacks because I think they are cool, but they probably are the best general option.

Consider that which datasheet is best is probably match up dependent. High AP/Dam factions will be very strong against the steeljacks because they only have 3 wounds and no invuln save. There are plenty of factions that will easily delete the steeljacks in a single round and the extra point cost for that 1 wound over the other tanky infantry options isnt worth it. But some factions will really struggle to remove them, especially damage 2 low AP stuff or high volume fire stuff.

I might play some TTS games with the new rules just to mess around, but I definitely cant bring myself to buy a 3rd army when I have 1k points of Deldar and Quins to finish.

Awesome rule here, it has the split a 10man Yaegirs squad into two 5 man squads. Basically the Carrier has Firing Deck 5 for your better units and the others Infiltrate to get space on the board.

In a Gaunts Ghosts book seige of Vervunhive Gaunt names them, and here's pretty unique in that he could have been a warmaster for a crusade and not just a Colonel-Commissar.
In Angel Exterminatus the first time the Emperors Children say the name Slaanesh on a crone world a lightning storm erupts and there's an earthquake like its a really big deal to utter the true name.
Lowly chaos cultistis would have no idea of their names right, perhaps even figures as high as space marines wouldn't know since its restricted knowledge and the Imperium is all about hiding information and censoring it. Yet in some games like Darktide 2 random enemies will scream 'for grandfather nurgle' and stuff

Thanks for posting it, it seems interesting. A little disappointing some of the SM Codex 2 detachments are going to be so close existing stuff but it is nice to see some love for the first founding chapters. The shoot and do actions is a neat rule to keep you maximizing value from Assault. This really is an army that wants to just go forward and burn.

I like it. Kind of mixed but should be fine. Losing Champion of Humanity is a big deal, but the fallback and shoot strat is nice. Probably won’t change my list much. Still gonna be two fire trucks and 12 eradicators, bladeguard and adrax with Vulkan leading a command squad as the core of the army. Just probably no LT with adrax and the bladeguard since I won’t need a CoH carrier anymore. May start seeing more librarians with infernus squads. The action thing is pretty big but we’ll see if it actually helps or not.
