That somewhat cringy line aside - I don't think it's meant to be that deep, but that's another topic - there's nothing inherently poorly written about Shadowheart not immediately discarding her cult name. Self-identity is complex and so are the feelings she would still hold for her Sharran past, the Mother Superior, and even Shar herself. These are not just bad memories, an abusive and overbearing "mother," and a cruel goddess, respectively. You can't just throw 40 years of even mostly traumatic memories in the trash like that, especially since they shaped the person you are today. Healing is a process that takes time. I'm sure she would eventually become comfortable with her birth name, but it's not like a switch she can simply turn on and off. I'm not so much defending convoluted writing as saying there is a basis in real life for the idea that letting go of one's internalized name is difficult.
