Pic related is part of Steam Next Fest. You don't just get 4 niggas in a row, you get to actively swap up to 4 other niggas in as a normal combat menu function. In the demo, there's a fight where you have your 4 starting dudes, 1 'main' character who's a military NCO and 3 of his soldiers. You go up against an enemy who's basically impervious to your attacks, and he calls out to swap one of your other dudes for the reserve soldier, who has an ability that does damage to the enemy. Also, both your reserve and frontliners all get the same experience so you don't have to autistically cycle each tard through the line just to level up. Its a good system.
