How is it an assumption when he did not do what you can claim he could? Orihime is confused since she sees Ichigo hurt even though she blocked his attack. He ignores or bypasses her shield. If he thought it was nothing, he could've just broken through. But he doesn't, because it clearly managed to block his strike.

He's playing around with Ichigo too, are you really gonna use that that argument? It's a one-sided match because Yhwach is literally the strongest being in the entire verse at that point. But Orihime can match him at points, just as Ichigo does.
