Tanks in XC2 work way better as a safety backup than traditional tanks like you'd expect. Aggro is broken in this game (as in "doesn't work"), and no tank is ever going to pull aggro off a good attacker.
Generally, you're playing as the DPS and the tank is there to unfuck the situation when you die. Thy'll pick you up when you die and hopefully keep aggro off the healer so you can regroup. Focus on evasion for tanks and early on, aggro down and healing power up for healers I think. It's been so long that I don't remember much, but there's a line of accessories, the greaves, that boost evasion by a %. Keep an eye out for those.
