It takes forever to unlock the full combat system and your options vary a bit depending on your gacha luck. But at the end of the day doing driver/blade/fusion combos is about you playing the game properly and planning ahead. Though the AI being stupid and out of your control sometimes makes things difficult.

If you memorise the combos and execute them you generate more orbs around the enemy, allowing you more turns in a chain attack, which results in a higher damage multiplier. If you destroy enough orbs you get full burst and do even more damage. The highest level bosses in the game get more than 50% of their health drained by a good chain attack.

extreme amounts of soul most people can't handle (specially in english). Top 3 JRPGs for me but it's very unique in lots of it's systems and gameplay so lots of people hate it. It also gets better and better the longer you play it

As long as you don't go into an apoplectic fit at the sight of bare skin or breasts larger than D-cups, you're in for a good shonenslop JRPG that gives way to a pretty kino sci-fi fantasy game with some neat elements and fun gameplay.

The difference is that 2 has fast, responsive combat without the clunk of 1 (can't move around while using skills, have to select attacks from a hotbar instead of having bindings like 2) or the slowness of 3 (gotta keep those autoattacks going, gotta wait for Kevesi skill timers).

There's a reason everyone plays as Rex in Future Redeemed. It's an even more fun version of XBC2 Rex, who was already by far the most fun protagonist to control.

Auto-attacks > Arts > Special I > II > III > IV > Blade Combo I > II > Finisher > Chain Attack > Full Burst
Get good at Driver Combos and combine them with Blade Combos for Fusion Combos
Pay attention to Blade Combo finisher debuffs, they will be godsends against certain enemies
Male and female party members prioritize different combos
You have tons of different methods to speed up combat, like flicking the stick between auto-attacks to immediately reset the animation, unlocking Art canceling and other Driver Affinity Chart upgrades, pouch items, accessories, etc.
Don't roll on Rex, he can freely use everyone's Blades after a point
Rolling for Blades relies on your Driver's Luck stat and Idea levels
The DLC is worth it
Ursula's quest requires a ridiculous number of merc missions, but you can actually optimize these missions to 2 minutes each to quickly grind common Blade Affinity Charts, quickly raising everyone's Idea levels, getting your higher ranking common Blades, and eventually getting your Overdrive Protocols
Actually learn how to salvage, because if you invest a couple hours into it, you will utterly break the game's economy and be insanely rich, at which point you can buy and resell stuff over and over and over to max out each nation's ranking, which cuts all their prices in half, unlocks new shop items, and gets you deeds that permanently increase things like running speed and inventory size
There's DLC for grinding Trust, but there's also an absolutely mindless grind where you feed Blades Veg & Oyster Aspic from Leftheria. You can do this for hours while doing something else to get a ton of your Blades up to S+ Trust. This is a massive increase to damage output and you'll hit max Affinity in battle far faster
Best healing is crit healing, look for Avant-Gard Medal later on

They've explained the reasons for the system, to give people unique Blade options per playthrough.

There's no money attached, you just get all the Blades anyway over time. You will naturally get 90% just using cores you find as you play. If you want 100% then you just grind a bit, pick up some legendary cores and you'll get that too.

And, it's also extremely easy to simply avoid the whole thing entirely and just use guaranteed/story Blades for everyone. Rex has Pneuma, Nia and Roc. Not a single gatcha Blade needed.

There are a bunch of things you should know, but I think these are especially important and massive game changers:

While the game tells you to stack orbs and then pop them in chains for big damage, this is a lot slower and less safe than using fusion combo effects instead. Look up how to stack them to maximize damage either with a driver -> multiple blade combos -> chain setup, or DoT blade combo -> smash until enemy dies.

Tanks in XC2 work way better as a safety backup than traditional tanks like you'd expect. Aggro is broken in this game (as in "doesn't work"), and no tank is ever going to pull aggro off a good attacker.

Generally, you're playing as the DPS and the tank is there to unfuck the situation when you die. Thy'll pick you up when you die and hopefully keep aggro off the healer so you can regroup. Focus on evasion for tanks and early on, aggro down and healing power up for healers I think. It's been so long that I don't remember much, but there's a line of accessories, the greaves, that boost evasion by a %. Keep an eye out for those.

It heavily depends on your tolerance for battle harem cringe. The tone is all over the place.
The plot takes ages to get going, but never quite reaches the highs of the first game (mostly just retreads them).
Cast is a downgrade. Rex is a boring retard. The girl characters are overall better, at least on par with Melia, but there are no cool characters like Dunban or bros like Reyn. The villains suck, especially the nopon one early-mid game.
The game areas aren't as memorable. There's a lot of titans now instead of just two, and yet, all of them feel incredibly small.
The combat is much more complex, but it's unintuitive and takes ages to open up. Better watch some youtube tutorials about it because the in-game tutorials are shit. Every character feels like it plays the same instead of the defined roles from 1.

But the music is good and the girls are really hot, so I guess there's that.

3 has shit performance. The story/characters are just bad, featuring 10-year-old clone soldiers except this concept really isn't explored at all. The villains are complete nobodies that look identical. Your party is running for their lives in the main story so all the side content/characters feel completely unrelated since you never even meet them in the story.

The combat is completely built around chain attacks and various mechanics attached to them that you spend 90% of most bosses doing chains. It just gets repetitive so fast. Compared to 1 and 2 I just didn't enjoy 3 at all.

For example, characters like Teach and Isurd are obviously supposed to fill the "old mentor" role similar to what Dunban does in 1. Teach in particular is supposed to be some old war veteran who is a legend in the battlefield. But then you remember that both of them are younger than Mio!!! And they're less than 1 year older than the other 5.
It is such an afterthought, just like most things in 3. 3 legitimately feels like a first draft of a story that somehow made it into the final game.

Yes! So I'll be honest, at first Alrest wasn't really doing it for me. Gormott got close but I didn't feel the same sense of wonder that I felt when I first got to Gaur Plains and could see Mechonis dominating the horizon and the chest of the Bionis straight up in the sky. But Uraya was the point where I kind of stopped to just walk around because that area looked good. The other one is when you get to the World Tree and Indol began fighting with the Tornan Warship. I immediately traveled to Mor Ardain because I wanted to know if it would account for that. And sure enough I could see Indol and the Tornan Warship fighting in the sky. Fucking fantastic.

The last leg of the game going from the Land of Morytha had me absolutely enthralled. I only played the game for the first time this year, it's become one of my favorite series. I'm working on Torna now. We'll it'd be more accurate to say I'm trapped in Torna. So I have 2 community members to add before it's entirely complete. But one of them gave me info on a bunch of Gold Monsters, who are really hard to kill. I've killed 3 of them but there's 2 left and the one I'm working on is in the desert and he keeps healing all the damage I can inflict normally. I switched to focusing on Chain Attacks, which worked but then it got mad and nuked my party. I really want to see how the Torna DLC ends and seeing the Tornan Titan wake up, yet again, gave me that sense of awe. But my autism won't allow me to move on without seeing all it has to offer so I need to figure out how to kill these last 2 gold monsters and how to get those last 2 community NPCs

Nice, our hour counts are very close. Technically I first played XC1 on Wii but stopped right after going through the Ether Mines. Life got busy and I never came back to it... until XDE. I still have the original clsomewhere with the reversible box art! Our stories regarding XC2 are very similar, I just didn't know about the gacha (somehow). I only broke up 2 and Torna because I was really digging the vibe of Mira, and hearing about character build variety had my interest piqued. Regarding playing other games in the series, make up your own mind and trust your gut. I enjoyed 3 well enough.

There's nothing weird about that. It's a lot faster paced and gives you more control over things, basically a straight evolution over base game. A lot of core systems (combat, exploration, questing, build variety) are solid improvements into something better, but a lot of subsystems are deeply flawed and filled with bullshit (field skills, Merc Missions, Dev levels, how character/blade upgrades work) that got massively improved, refined, or cut down in XC3. In short, it's both better and worse than 1, and a lot of the parts that are worse got fixed or diminished severely in XC3.

As for the story- your enjoyment totally depends on your tolerance/enjoyment for classic shounen anime. Because the story is intentionally emulating that style and making constant references to the genre.If you are into that sort of thing, it's a great love letter to it. If you don't like that kind of thing, you will find the first 2/3rds of the game grating and annoying.
