Perhaps in the pacifist route, Kris and the party convince Rudy to stand down, help them by giving them another shadow crystal or Dark World armor (maybe item) and the strain of the encounter just keeps him in the hospital in a coma, or he could still die but it isn't by your doing so Kris doesn't gain LOVE. Either way, Noelle is livid at the party and takes her father's place out of spite and overwhelming emotional turmoil, becoming an antagonist you either win back somehow or have to bitterly defeat.
