I'm playing through Dorokei right now and to be honest it seems quite a bit more difficult than their previous game, for example losing a battle increases the alert level which then makes the battle you just lost even harder, this is a great mechanic for corruptge battlefuck games based around moral debasement and humiliation such as those belonging to Ankoku but less so for a stealth game where the battlefuck is its own separate minigame distinct from the RPGM battles. But the addition of party members is a nice upgrade over the first game even if I prefer the first game because I find women in uniform hotter than thieves.

I disagree, the true reason ge's struggle to be truly scary is because 2d creates an inherent disconnect between the player and the player character, top down just doesn't make for good horror, first person and third person are far more effective and as such lewd horror is much more effective in side scrollers and full 3d games but full 3d is far more time consuming to produce when compared to RPGM eroges and as such is typically only done by the same types who ask for monthly support on Patreon, Subscribestar etc or especially ambitious developers with a lot of time and/or funding. And the final reason is because a lot of eastern erotic games that include horror usually just mean graphic mutilation and gross-out stuff instead of atmosphere and tension.
