have you had this "layout" which convinced you to be "good enough to use as much as possible" for your base?
right now I'm using a 13x13 grid to put walls, which I leave as a room, or separate inside in 3x4 rooms (that'd be the free space) or 5x4, which would fit inside. I found this "versatile" because it's the biggest area I could put a roof inside without needing colums/walls inside, but I wonder if anyone else can share their layouts which may convince me to switch.
