Frankly I prefer it way over Part 1 for the QoL but I get what he meant.
In BMZ2 the huge map is traded by multiple more compact ones since you are exploring multiple planets.
In BMZ3 it's all interconnected via warps, but kind of a mix but I felt the exploration hurt due to that. Still it was much more convenient to explore and backtrack in BMZ3 due to that, whereas in 1 you'd have to go through every nook and cranny back and forth to get all the upgrades.
The gameplay in 2 and 3 are also focused more on energy management since instead they modified SOPHIA to be able to recharge constantly for the space travel. So while in 1 you have a bigger energy bar but run out and that's it forcing you to be stingy with upgrades, in 2~3 you are encouraged to use those and maneuver to recharge accordingly, with Jason's gameplay on foot being adapted for a counter reactional style as well.
