So think of Duel Masters, where every card is a resource, but rather than tapping mana to pay for the cost of cards, you tap Mana to "attach energy" to your units, which lets you tap them, to either use their abilities or attack during phase three. But tapping them, is what leaves them vulnerable to attack. And because Units are what you use to contest the locations, it's a bit of a strategic balancing act trying to further your strategy, while also protecting yourself as best as you can.

As for combat. like MTG, any unrested unit can block, and there are also "Technique" cards. Think of th Jutsu from Naruto. Or, just think of Instant Speed combat tricks, or Hand Traps from Yugioh. Except they're tied to the units. This is what makes the combat way interactive, as its this constant back and forth of managing resources, bluffing, and timing your plays correctly, while trying to have the most points before the end of the final turn.

I think I'm being a little abstract, but hopefully I got the ideas across clearly. I'll share the pdf on here later when its ready in case other people wanna try it. That way it's also easier to understand in was that isn't saying "think of this game, but X" constantly.

As for the Dream stuff, that's more of a new thing, as I tried to tie the game system better to the IP. I quite liked the way the system played, but with terms like "units" and stuff it felt more military than gothic horror. However, once I renamed the unit cards into Vessels it all clicked perfectly.

It also cleared up a qualm I had about having multiple instances of a named character on the board. I mentioned this last thread when asking about One Piece actually. However, if they're Vessels, then it's perfectly in lore. It's the character, it's aspect of the character within the dream. It's from there that all the dream stuff started to click into place better. It justifies a lot of things, and blends so well with the lore of the IP.
