We return to Spike, now paired with Harshwhinny, preparing for his new role. She's an excellent choice as a foil to Spike here. We the audience should know by now that she's not a cruel pony, but we know her character and how much this event means to her, so the show can get away with making her rather antagonistic towards Spike. Her insistence on calling him "Mr. The Dragon" manages to highlight her PROFESSIONALISM while also coming across as a tad demeaning. The two enter the arena and the direction again does an excellent job of communicating Spike's mental state. The bright light as they enter is blinding, which provides a smooth cut to a quasi-pov shot as Spike sees the torch, a rising zoom highlighting its size and prominence with an absolutely enormous crowd surrounding it. We then cut to a reverse shot 'Hitchcock zoom' as a dark vignette closes in on Spike, who looks absolutely mortified. The script, camera direction, and facial animation are all working in perfect harmony.

In the middle of Spike's mental breakdown, we cut away to see the delegations making their entrance, with a brief shot of Cloudsdale pegasi calmly flying in to set up the contrast of the CMC loudly cheering for Ponyville, along with Twilight giving a distinctly un-Princessy woohoo, followed by an apologetic smile to Celestia. More good character for her, and it's all being done very efficiently as we progress the story. Back by the torch, Harshwhinny gives two stamps. We the audience don't know for sure what this means, as we were hurriedly told there would be a 'signal', but not what the signal would be. So Spike's confusion here feels natural, and Harshwhinny's frustration is clearly making things worse. Spike fails to light the torch, with a very nice panning shot to highlight the size of the crowd once again. After a cut to commercial, and more pressure from Harshwhinny, Twilight intervenes, and we see a confused Spike ponder what just happened.
