Greg Daniels did an interview a year ago where he said he wasn’t sure if Kahn was coming back but they would probably recast him if they did.
What he says about the original casting is not apologetic; they cast Huss because he was already there for the smaller part of Cotton (who appeared in the pilot in a flashback). They just used their existing cast the way The Simpsons mostly gave minor male characters to one of their three male regulars.
I really doubt Huss believes his voice, which thankfully they are not yet able to airbrush out of 100+ earlier episodes, is hurting anyone, but I don’t think he, Daniels, or anyone else is going to publicly denounce this policy. Maybe after enough drinks.
And yeah, very unfair to Breckin Meyer, though it won’t be as noticeable because he already replaced Brittany Murphy and people are used to Joseph changing voices.
