Now your horse has no clue how to optimize their energy and position, so they consistently lowroll the position checks, they will get boxed in very easily and have trouble knowing what to look for to get out of boxes, and in general they are not going to be good at being the leader of the pack for the strategy selected.
For front running the main downsides are pic related. Wit controls your actual speed and stamina drain for 80% of the race, and you have forfeited these rolls from ever having good results. So you're not going to drain the stamina of the horses behind you, if you win it is because you stat-crush them and not because you were a good front runner.
