today I updated my arch install after a month or so, just to break it. after troubleshooting for 20min or so on my phone and booting on the arch iso, I finally figured it out why: I saw a post on their website about linux-firmware breaking pacman and followed their instructions, but they only mention nvidia on there, I wasn't aware I needed a package for amdgpu and intel, particularly because I assumed the packages amd-ucode and intel-ucode already covered this since amdgpu is built in.
what is the difference between "microcode" and firmware then? why can't they not break stuff and require the user to go to their website for help? I spent too long gawking a screen with "could not find display lmfao" with no idea what I did wrong.
thanks for reading my blog btw, don't forget to like and subscribe.
