▶Thales × KNDS unveil RAPIDFire Land
A land-based variant of the 40mm RAPIDFire Naval defense system, in two configurations:
1. Semi-mobile for site protection, with a 20-foot platform set up on the ground that can be readily moved and re-deployed to other locations.
2. Mobile, with the 20-foot platform mounted on a vehicle to protect high-value assets in the theatre of operations.
The french procurement agency DGA has ordered 48 × RAPIDFire Land.
>A KNDS representative told Janes, "The turret is more compact than for example the Skyranger 35 mm turret. We originally put this on the CAESAR [self-propelled howitzer], which is a 6x6. The CAESAR gun module weighs seven tonnes, [while RapidFire weighs] just three, so it can go on a VBCI [véhicule Blindé de Combat d'Infanterie] 8x8, or Patria's AMV [Armoured Modular Vehicle] 8x8."
