You'd need some borderline physics breaking technology to make something like an AC a viable machine. It would need something like a nuclear or fusion reactor to power it, extremely efficient rocket/jet engines to achieve liftoff, light but durable materials to construct it and most importantly some fucking way of letting the pilot deal with the g forces and inertia of the movements of the AC.
An AC can go from flying at ridicilous sanic speeds to dead stop in near instant. That sort of shit would kill a person piloting it without some sort of protection.
