>From the early Middle Ages to the beginning of the modern era, the Wild Man was an anthropomorphic creature in the folklore of the Germanic and Slavic-speaking regions. He was described or depicted as a solitary, extremely hairy, naked primitive man, or one clothed only in moss or foliage. His way of life was considered semi-animalistic and primitive on the one hand, but also paradisiacal and close to nature on the other. Uninhabited or uninhabitable forest and mountain areas were thought to be his preferred habitat.
