It is kinda funny that besides Weekly and Commissioner Smirnov, Blacksad has a terrible taste in friends. It seems to be a recurring pattern that many of the more sophisticated and famous people he likes turn out to be duplicitous—either outright bastards or just generally awful. Weekly, as the more down-to-earth working man, is ironically one of his most reliable and loyal friends.

This becomes especially apparent in Red Soul, particularly with the character shown in the attached picture. More broadly, all the left-leaning intellectuals Blacksad gravitates toward are either intentionally or unintentionally backstabbing, two-timing bastards, cowards, or even murderers. Some are outright traitors, while others are at least complicit. Now that I think about it, a large number of the “intellectuals” Blacksad likes end up having either figurative or literal skeletons in their closets.
