But fine if we must go down this road, let's talk about why Bioshock Infinite is terrible and why I'm sad 3H took leaf out of its book. Infinite handwaves it's multiverse by claiming there are "constants and variables." Canon events that must happen and events where there is free will. This is fucking dumb. All of time is concurrent and events happen in the context of previous events. Booker choosing whether to be baptized or not determines the birth of a whole new person who then must have constants and variables applied to her or none at all since she doesn't exist. Going back to 3H, Byleth deciding which classes they can teach determines who will live and who will die. Jeralt dies and Byleth using Divine Pulse doesn't change it because, according to Sothis, destiny has decided Jeralt must die. But why? 3 Hopes can have Jeralt survive. So obviously destiny is okay with Jeralt living under certain circumstances. I can Divine Pulse to undo the deaths of my own army. If Ashe fucks up and gets crit then he and Mercedes behind him can die while ordering him to stay back 5 feet means both will live. Why can't you do that with Rodrigue? Or with Randolph? If you don't want to write around Byleth having literal time travel, just don't bring it up. Gaiden doesn't. But since 3H does the story must abide by it and it breaks more than it fixes. Engage does this shit too and IS calls even more attention to it.
