That's funny because that's basically what Metroid Dread is, a direct narrative follow up to a 20 year old GBA game that was made before most zoomies were even born.
I think the primary difference here is that it was the will of Sakamoto (one of the few senior producers at Nintendo who gives a shit about canon), the closest Star Fox ever had to that was again Imamura who 1. wanted to end the storyline with Command anyway and 2. recently left Nintendo a couple of years back.
