And not just with soft diplomatic power. They don't understand *anything*. The White House bragged about getting rid of a "$4 million for onions bean research" grant because science is hard to understand so it must be a scam. Onions bean yields have gone up by 50% in the last thirty years and that's partly due to agricultural research sponsored by the federal government. That 50% increase means there's an additional $20 billion being added to the US economy every year, it means farmers are more economically secure, that more people are employed (and paying taxes), that rural areas are a little more prosperous which means fewer people collecting federal aid, and that the US agricultural sector is more competitive internationally. Not bad for four million bucks. But no, science is a waste of money because it takes some people more than five seconds to understand its benefits and to them, thinking is gay or libtarded or something.

My point is that being pro-science shouldn't be a political opinion in the first place. Everyone should be in favor of it, especially when it's something as uncontroversial as fucking *beans*. And if the people at the very top (politicians) and the very bottom (the dumbest voters) were only a little bit less retarded, it wouldn't be.
